Economic investment residential certificate
Sells the right to live in the country (a “golden visa”), sometimes leading to citizenship later.
Official name: Economic Investment Residential Certificate (EIRC; Economic Investment Certificate and Residential Certificate policy until 31 March 2023)
BD$2.5 million in any qualifying investment (real estate, business, charity, Sinking Fund, Trust Fund), with spouse and dependants included. The government-bond option was removed on 9 June 2024. Fees excluded: BD$2,625 certificate fee.
Notes from the research
Ministerial policy under s.32(5) of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956, not a separate statute. Investment of at least BD$2.5 million (real estate, new or existing business, charity, Sinking Fund, Trust Fund, other approved ventures; Government bonds until 9 June 2024). From 2021 to March 2023 investors first got a five-year Economic Investment Certificate, then could apply for a Residential Certificate; since 31 March 2023 the Residential Certificate (indefinite residence, automatic work approval for the investor's own business) is granted at once, subject to keeping the investment and spending 90 days a year in Bermuda for five years. Replaced the 2003 and 2015 Residential Certificate policies for wealthy retirees. Not a route to Bermudian status or citizenship by itself. Cumulative figures from the Ministry: 79 approved applications, 188 holders and $604.9m associated investment by 5 November 2025.
