My Second Home (MM2H)

Sells the right to live in the country (a “golden visa”), sometimes leading to citizenship later.

Official name: Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) / Program Malaysia Rumah Keduaku

Lowest price for one person: not determined

Not set because the Silver tier (cheapest standard tier, from June 2024) needs two items in different currencies: a US$150,000 fixed deposit (t-7ed6899447) plus a compulsory home purchase of at least RM600,000 (t-b3249beabf). The Special Economic Zone category needs only US$65,000 (US$32,000 aged 50+) but requires a Forest City home whose minimum price is not recorded.

Notes from the research

Long-term social visit pass with multiple-entry visa for foreigners who show money in Malaysia; not permanent residence and no route to citizenship (minister, Feb 2026). Run by the Ministry of Tourism (MOTAC) with the Home Ministry and Immigration Department; Immigration (JIM) took over processing from August 2021 and MOTAC's One Stop Centre runs it again under the 2024 rules. No act of parliament: it is an administrative programme using passes under the Immigration Act and Immigration circulars (e.g. Pekeliling Imigresen Bil. 6/2009). Until 2020: 10-year pass, fixed deposit of about RM150,000-350,000 and offshore income of RM10,000 a month. New applications frozen in 2020; revived from October 2021 with RM1m deposit, RM40,000 monthly income, RM1.5m liquid assets and 5-year passes. Since June 2024: Platinum (US$1m deposit, RM2m home, 20 years), Gold (US$500k, RM1m home, 15 years), Silver (US$150k, RM600k home, 5 years) and a Special Economic/Financial Zone category (US$32k-65k, Forest City homes, 10 years). Sarawak runs its own S-MM2H (not covered here).

Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) programme

Sells the right to live in the country (a “golden visa”), sometimes leading to citizenship later.

Notes from the research

Separate programme run by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Sarawak controls immigration into the state), distinct from the federal MM2H (mys-mm2h). Under the guide amended 31 Jul 2025 (rules effective 1 Jan 2025 per the minister): applicants aged 30+, a mandatory RM500,000 fixed deposit in a panel bank in Sarawak (RM250,000 minimum balance to be kept; up to 50% withdrawable after a year for a house, car, medical or education costs in Sarawak) and, in addition, a pension or offshore income of RM10,000 a month (RM15,000 with dependants) or savings of RM100,000 (RM200,000); 5+5-year social visit pass; at least 30 days a year in Sarawak. Deposit plus income, like the federal MM2H. Launch year not found in a stored document. The minister gave participant counts for the top 10 nationalities (China 391, UK 350 ...), not recorded because the stock/flow basis is not stated.
